Synopsis:

Another family affair

Chandni belongs to a middle- class family, living in one of the tiny by lanes of Bhopal. She lives with her father and younger siblings - Anujh and Sandhya. Chandni, who is deeply attached to her school going brother and sister, is trained in classical and folk music. During a stage performance, she falls in love with Prem. Prem hails from a rich business family and is an unconventional singer full of mischief and pranks. Life is picture-perfect until on the day of their engagement, Chandni’s father passes away and suddenly she becomes the eldest in the family. On one hand, her adorned hands beckoning her to the dream home of her fiancé and on the other hand are her younger siblings whom she cannot take along with her. Chandni decides not to marry so that she can bring up her little brother and sister with self-respect. Prem understands her and stands by her through thick and thin as she goes through her struggle. He unconditionally waits for Chandni for 12 long years until she fulfills all her responsibilities as an elder sister.

Ek Vivaah… highlights this unique man- woman relationship, which is not a marriage with vows, but a marriage by virtue. The characters of both Chandni and Prem were challenging as they go through a remarkable transformation through the span of the movie. Chandni goes from a naive young girl to a woman of substance, who stands up against the world for her family and home. On narrating the script to both of them, I realised that could not have asked for a better leading pair. On the last day of shooting, a sort of emptiness dawned upon me as I realised that this heartening and fulfilling experience was over.

THE BUZZ
The buzz doing the rounds is that Ek Vivaah Aisa Bhi is a sequel to their previous film, Vivah that had Shahid Kapoor and Amrita Rao playing the lead. But Sooraj Barjatya denies these rumours vehemently saying that the film is another point of view at the sanctity.
